Dornick Hills Golf and Country Club

Dornick Hills grew out of Perry Maxwell's former dairy farm on the hills outside Ardmore, where the first holes were laid out around 1913 and the full eighteen completed by 1923, making it the oldest 18-hole course in Oklahoma. It was the first club in the state affiliated with the USGA and among the first with Bermuda greens. The name comes from the Gaelic word for the small stones that had to be cleared by the thousands before play was possible. Maxwell's celebrated 16th, the Cliff Hole, climbs to a green perched atop a roughly 50-foot rock face. The course was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004, and Maxwell, later famed for Southern Hills and Prairie Dunes, is buried on the grounds he built.
