Escena opened in 2005 as the centerpiece of a gated Lennar community, the first golf course built inside Palm Springs city limits in roughly two decades. The Nicklaus Design layout closed during the housing collapse a few years later. It reopened in November 2009 under new owners, with a mid-century modern clubhouse. It plays to about 7,170 yards with generous fairways, and walking is permitted.
