Forest Dunes Golf Resort

Forest Dunes opened in 2002 with an eighteen-hole Tom Weiskopf design tucked into northern Michigan's Lower Peninsula near Roscommon, bordering the Huron National Forest. Weiskopf routed the front nine through dense woodland before the back nine opens into rolling, sandy terrain left by ancient glaciers, a blend that quickly earned the course national acclaim. In 2016 the resort added The Loop, Tom Doak and Renaissance Golf Design's fully reversible eighteen. Its shared fairways and greens play clockwise as the Black Course and counterclockwise as the Red, each a par 70 with five par threes, so the same ground yields two genuinely different rounds on alternating days. Together the Weiskopf course and Doak's reversible experiment make Forest Dunes one of the Midwest's most distinctive golf destinations.
