About Split Rock Golf Course
Split Rock opened in 1936 as a New Deal project of Robert Moses's Parks Department, designed by John Van Kleek, the architect behind the city's 1930s public courses including Dyker Beach, Kissena and Silver Lake. GOLF.com calls it his best New York course, a tight, tree-lined test through Pelham Bay Park's rock outcrops; Bobby Jones played it the year it opened. Paired with the older Pelham Bay course, it makes up New York City's only 36-hole public facility, still city-owned and open to all.
