The Golf Club at The Equinox Resort

Est. 1927 · Walter Travis (1927); Rees Jones (1992 restoration)
Why we love this place

Walter Travis bones with a Rees Jones polish, right in historic Manchester Village: this is southern Vermont golf at its most classic. The Vermont Amateur came here four times, and the setting beneath the Green Mountains is pure New England.

About The Golf Club at The Equinox Resort

The Golf Club at the Equinox began in 1927, when Louise Orvis hired Walter Travis, the three-time U.S. Amateur champion turned architect, to design a course for the historic Equinox resort in Manchester Village, partly because women were not allowed to play on the neighboring course. Known in its early decades as the Equinox Links, it sits near Ekwanok, Travis's first course, and is regarded as one of his last. The course hosted the Vermont Amateur in 1928, 1932, 1936 and 1952. In 1992 Rees Jones completed a comprehensive restoration of the Travis design for then-owner Guinness Enterprise Holdings, parent of Scotland's Gleneagles, improving playability, conditioning and aesthetics. New ownership brought Jones back in 2018 and 2019 for a multi-phase renovation that reshaped and reduced bunkers, added greenside chipping areas, improved drainage on ten holes and redesigned the 18th green complex.
