Wilson Lake Country Club

Est. 1932 · Wayne Stiles
Why we love this place

We love Wilson Lake for its Golden Age soul in a small package. Wayne Stiles laid out nine holes by the water in 1932, Patty Berg called it the best nine in Maine, and it still plays like a walk back in time. Lake views included.

About Wilson Lake Country Club

Wilson Lake Country Club opened on August 6, 1932, on the shores of Wilson Lake in Wilton, in the foothills of western Maine. The club's bylaws date from that same year, and its nine holes were laid out by Golden Age architect Wayne Stiles. More than nine decades later, the course retains much of its original Stiles character, a compact lakeside routing that has changed remarkably little since the Depression era. In 1946 the great champion Patty Berg played an exhibition here, setting the women's course record of 38 and later calling Wilson Lake the best nine in Maine. That same summer the club hosted the Maine Amateur Championship, a notable honor for a nine-hole course in a small town. The club has since revived its original 1932 logo, recreated from the founding bylaws, for its merchandise, a small nod to a long and proud history that still shapes how the course looks and plays today.
