Whiteface Golf Club

Est. 1898 · John Van Kleek (18-hole redesign), with input from Walter Hagen
Why we love this place

This is Adirondack golf at its most soulful: century-old bones, clover-leaf greens, and Lake Placid shimmering beyond the fairways. We love a classic, walkable course that trades length for character and scenery. Playing Whiteface feels like stepping into golf's early history without ever leaving the mountains behind.

About Whiteface Golf Club

Set on the shores of Lake Placid against the Adirondack High Peaks, Whiteface Club & Resort traces its golf back to 1898, when a modest short course first wound along the lake. The layout grew into the 18-hole championship course players know today largely through a redesign led by architect John Van Kleek, with champion golfer Walter Hagen lending his input. Van Kleek's work is best remembered for its distinctive clover-leaf greens and strategic bunkering, framed by tight, tree-lined fairways and mountain views. Recognized as one of the country's older continuously operating courses, it has welcomed a colorful roll call of visitors over the decades. Today it plays as a classic par-72 of roughly 6,445 yards, prized more for character, scenery and heritage than for raw length.
